Florence Barbara McCombs (Kruszewski), of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully at Ohio State University Medical Center on June 20, 2022 at the age of 93. Florence, or Cookie as she was known to her family, was born on December 26, 1928, in Reading, Pennsylvania to Walter S. Kruszewski Sr. and Stella Kruszewski. Cookie attended Central Catholic High School in Reading where she was a cheerleader. After training as a nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Reading, Cookie became a Navy nurse and was stationed in Pensacola, Florida. There, she met her husband Richard while he was completing his flight training. She continued to serve as a nurse at Mercy Hospital, Worley Terrace, and Franklinton Health Center after settling in Columbus. Cookie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Dora (Dolly) Kugler, and brother, Walter S. Kruszewski, Jr. Cookie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Richard L. McCombs; children: Tim (Barbara) McCombs, Mark (Mary) McCombs, and Amy Fredrick; grandchildren: Megan (Seth) Heydlauff, Ben (Jenn) McCombs, Paige Fredrick, Matthew (Caroline) Fredrick, Andrew McCombs, and Jamie McCombs; great-grandchildren: Sam and Annie Heydlauff, all of Columbus, Ohio and brother-in-law George Kugler of Wernersville, PA. Cookie loved her family, Reading, PA, and the ocean. She made epic Easter baskets, always had a great story or tradition to share, and made us laugh with her "tell it like it is" attitude. She introduced her grandkids to Polish sayings, old movies, and life lessons. Cookie will be interned at a later date at the Chapel of St. George, Gethsemane Cemetery, Reading, PA.
