Dr. Robert F. Amicon M.D., age 86, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Mount Carmel East Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Friends may call FRIDAY March 23, 2018, at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 W. 5th Avenue, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral Mass 10:00 AM on SATURDAY March 24, 2018 at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 1420 Grandview Avenue, Grandview, Ohio. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne. Robert was born February 27, 1932 in Grandview, OH to Tony and Filomena Amicon. He was a 1950 graduate of Grandview High School. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1954 where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. During college he enlisted in the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in 1964 as a Captain in the Medical Corps. While in the Army, Robert attended The Ohio State University Medical School where he graduated with honors in 1958. Dr. Amicon chose Mt. Carmel for his internship and residency, which he completed in 1960. From 1960-2001, Robert had a private practice on W. Broad St, where he faithfully, and lovingly served the medical needs of his many patients.
During his distinguished 44-year career, he chaired the Ambulatory Care Committee and the Medical Staff Planning and Development Committee at Mt. Carmel. In addition, he was the Department of Family Practice Chairman from 1981-1993. During this time he also taught medical students attending Mt. Carmel’s residency program. Dr. Amicon was also a founder of the Mount Carmel Family Practice Residency Program and the Medical Director of the Mount Carmel Medical Center Optifast Program. Dr. Amicon was a fellow of both the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Society of Contemporary Medicine. He received many awards and accreditations during his prestigious career, including the 2004 Physician of the Year Award from Mt. Carmel, and in 2007 had great pride in receiving the Ohio State University Lifetime Achievement Award for physicians who have dedicated their professional lives and services to educating medical students. In addition to his medical career, he served as the team physician for the football, and lacrosse teams at Hastings Middle School, and Upper Arlington High School. Robert had many passions beyond medicine, none more important than spending time with Lynne, his loving wife of 46 years, and his children. Lynne’s devotion to Robert, and their love for each other, inspired him to fight through multiple illnesses over many years, and is the ultimate example of unconditional love. Robert’s favorite things to do were spending time with his family in the home he built by hand with his father and children at Apple Valley, and shelling on Sanibel Island, FL. He loved woodworking, Ohio State football, model building, and making all holidays memorable by decorating, and hosting large parties for family and friends. Dr. Amicon is preceded in death by his parents Tony and Filomena, his brother Charles and sister-in-law Margaret, and in-laws Paul, and Jeanne Lieber. He is survived by his wife Lynne, his sister Joanne (Pat), and his seven children; Gregg (Nancy), Andy, Phyllis, Ken (Nicole), Brian (Michelle), Kim (Aaron), and Vince (Angela), his twelve Grandchildren; Paige, Nick, Dan, Tom, Keehle, Brinley, Emily, Colin, Luke, Holly, Frankie, and Madelyn, and his great grandson, Cameron. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society.
