Obituary

Roehrer, Elizabeth V. (Montes) Born in Columbus on November 5, 1927; Elizabeth died at home on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Liz is preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Roehrer; parents Harry and Charlene Montes; sisters Martha Kleinman, Joanne Merendo and Mary Jo Zimmerman; daughter-in-law Laura Edwards and sons-in-law Dan Cotterman and Robert Mathews. She is survived by her daughters Lisa (Joseph) McKinley, Nancy Cotterman and Karen Rose Mathews; son, Robert (Mitzi) Roehrer; grandchildren David (Kelsey) and Andrew McKinley, Greg (Kelly) and Devon (Leah) Cotterman, Patrick (Tessa) and Nathan Roehrer; great grandchildren Quinn McKinley, and, Owen, Eloise, Gianna and Gisele Cotterman; niece Terri Figliolo and nephew John Kleinman; and first cousin Dee Pitthan. She is also survived by dear friends Ann Lynch and Barbara Nini, along with nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Liz grew up in the Milo neighborhood during the Great Depression and lived in a house with her grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles and siblings. Her Italian heritage and family played an important role throughout her life. She graduated from Holy Family High School in Franklinton and St. Francis Nursing School. Her call to helping others extended to service as an Ensign First Class in the U.S. Naval Reserve Nurses Corp at Camp LeJeune during the Korean War. She returned home to work in a physician's office and as a surgical nurse at Mt. Carmel Hospital. She was proud of her service to our nation and Mt. Carmel where she was a head operating room nurse, role model, mentor and advocate for her nursing colleagues. She greatly enjoyed participating in retirement luncheons with her former colleagues. With her husband Bob, Liz enjoyed spending time with friends and family in the Columbus area. They were active members of Immaculate Conception Church in Clintonville and traveled near and far. This included trips to Fripp Island, South Carolina; the gulf beaches of Florida, Italy and other countries in Europe, Hawaii and many other places. Liz continued to travel into her 90s, enjoying adventures that took her all over Ohio and other states. Many of her best times, though, came when she participated in family activities here in Columbus. She attended band concerts, school functions, basketball games, graduations, weddings, Veterans Day celebrations and birthdays; as well as community events like Patriotic Pops and Red White & Boom. She was always there for her family and friends, especially when someone was ill. Liz was able to remain in her home throughout her life and in recent years was blessed with support and help from family and neighbors. She did as many things as she could on her own, but would ask for help as she had done for others throughout her life. Often, there was a request to do "one more thing" and she would always invite her guests to stay and visit a while after everything was done. She spent time on Facebook daily, as well as e-mailing and talking on the phone. She never missed sending a birthday, condolence, get well or graduation card to those in her life. Liz was the kind of person who took each day as it came and this inspired all who came into contact with her. She will be greatly missed and remembered by those who love and know her. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 4 at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home, 1177 W. 5th Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43212. Masks are required to be worn at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 5 at Immaculate Conception Church, 414 E. North Broadway, Columbus, Ohio 43214 with a procession to Saint Joseph's Cemetery, 6440 S. High Street, Lockbourne, Ohio 43137.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts in memory of Liz be directed to Immaculate Conception Church or an organization of your choice that serves veterans.
