Obituary

William (Bill) Joseph Finissi Sr, 91, peacefully passed away on August 21 at Kobacker House surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, the son of Dominic and Virgina Finissi. After growing up in Clarksburg, West Virginia, he went on to play football for Salem College, The United States Army and The Washington Redskins. He then enjoyed an extensive business career with American Electric Power, The Ohio Legislature, The Ohio Boxing Commission and The Ohio College Board. Bill had a true passion for coaching. Over the years he coached basketball at The Pontifical College Josephinum and football at Immaculate Conception as well as volunteered for the Watterson Football Program. He was a proud member of the Athletic Committee at The Ohio State University and St. John's Italian Catholic Church. His love for The New York Yankees, The Ohio State Buckeyes and his Italian culture was only topped by the love he had for his family. Bill is survived by his wife and best friend of 65 years, Norma Jean; his sons, William Joseph II (Sally) and Michael James (Doreen); his grandchildren, William III, Nicholas (Katelin), Michael II (Kristen), Anthony (Hanna), Tara (Garrison), Sophia and Christopher; and great grandchildren, Royce and Paisley. He was preceded in death by one infant granddaughter, Megan. A private family ceremony will be held this Friday with entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Kobacker House, 800 McConnell Dr, Columbus, OH 43214, or any charity close to your heart, in memory of Bill. Arrangements entrusted to JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME 614-294-4416

I have many fond memories of Bill growing up in Clintonville and attending IC and BWHS. I first met Bill playing football at both schools and then seeing him occasionally at CSOE/AEP, where I also worked. He always took an interest in me, supported my development and was fun to be around. I can still picture Bill calling out plays at my 8th grade IC football games, sharing his stories playing for the Redskins, smiling and chewing his tobacco. Take care ...

I remember your dad when we went to Virginia Tech on a recruiting trio for CSOE.
He was so nice to me he made a life long impression. Also remember his retirement party. Great guy.
Please give my condolence to your family and you.

Hope all is well with you.
