Peter Carl Lentz, age 51, of Nicholls, GA went to be with the Lord on January 24th, 2007, at home and surrounded by his devoted family after a courageous battle with cancer. He fought cancer the way he approached life- head-on. Peter was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and brother-in-law. Peter was a passionate, patriotic man who loved God, family, and country. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Peter graduated from The Ohio State University’s ROTC program, where he received his commission in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lt., and eventually achieved the rank of Major. While serving in the U.S. Army as a Field Artillery Officer, he became a member of the elite Airborne Rangers and later went on to serve in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Through his devoted service he was awarded a Bronze Star. After faithfully serving his country for over thirteen years, he embarked on a teaching career in which he spent the past six years passionately teaching high school history. I knew Pete when we were at Ohio State in the ROTC program from 1976 till 1980 when I graduated. I haven't seen him since 1980, but he was a great guy and I am very sorry to hear about his death. His example and enthusiasm made an impact on my life. With my sincere condolences, Mike Benver.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of my cousin Peter's death. I have such fond memories of watching him play Army on the floor when Uncle Fred, Aunt Connie and all the cousins would drive to Baltimore for Thanksgiving--and to help rake all the leaves in our woodsy back yard. Then in 1970, he and my mother and brother Tom and I took a roadtrip across America. That was the summer of Three Dog Night's "Jeremiah was a Bullfrog," and Peter belted it out full-volume at every rest stop. His energy and enthusiasm added so much to everyone's good time.
I know he was well-loved by his family; he was loved long distance over these many years as well. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy.
Jo
