Pat L. Volpe, age 93, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2011 with family by his side. He was born in Introdacqua, Italy in 1917 to the late Louis & Marianna. Pat proudly served in the US Army Ohio National Guard as a Sergeant in the 37th Division, 116 Infantry. He retired from the Fisher Body Division of General Motors after 30 years of dedicated service and a retiree of the UAW Local 969. Pat had lived in Flytown and was a member of the Flytown Club, GAC, SFI, SNPJ and a long time Treasurer of the St. Francis Seniors. From 1968 to 1997 Pat was an usher and the Portal Chief for the OSU Football Stadium officially making him an avid Buckeye fan. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Julia, son-in-law James Oldham, Sr., sisters; Pauline (Frank) Straquadine and Mary T. Latorre and sister-in-law Gilda Volpe. Pat is survived by his devoted children; Maryann (Ed) Maher, Roseann Volpe and Norma Oldham, grandchildren; Victoria (Matt Michalak) Oldham, Louis Maher, Danielle (Jeff) Bereznay and James Oldham, Jr., brother, Louis Vople, brothers-in-law Rocco Latorre and Carl Fossaceca, sisters-in-law Jo DiPaolo, Loretta (Nick) Panno and Dolores DePietro. He is also survived by other numerous family members including nieces, nephews and Godchildren. Per Pat's request; "Please do not wear black to my funeral" and GO BUCKS! The Volpe family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Grant Medical Center, including Dennis of the CCU for the kindness and compassion given to our father. Friends may call WEDNESDAY February 16 2011 at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 W. 5th Avenue, from 3:00-7:00 PM with GAC service at 5:00 PM and a Cathoic Prayer Service at 6:45 PM. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM on THURSDAY February 17 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. FRIENDS ARE ASKED TO MEET AT CHURCH. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute in memory of Pat to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at a local Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
