Obituary

Marion Lillian (Gazda) Schieber passed peacefully from age and adventure at 97 on August 7, 2015. She had been living at Wesley Glen Retirement Community for three years. She was born Oct. 10, 1917 in St. Louis, MO to Mary Catherine (Plattner) Gazda and Joseph S. Gazda; and is survived by sibling Margarette Ann Eisenhour of Sun City, AZ. Two other siblings, Alvin “Bud” Gazda and Harold Gazda are deceased. She worked as a legal secretary in Washington and during WWII for the U.S. Government in Panama, where she met and married Donald Howard Schieber, of Bucyrus, OH. Except for six years in Mexico City, they lived in Findlay, OH until his death in 1989. In the States and in Mexico, she helped operate Sunbeam Hatcheries and later Totem Nuts and Sunbeam Printing. The centerpiece of Marion’s life was her five boys, Mark Alan, Michael Geoffrey, Randall Lee, Curtis Neil, and Craig Evan. Moving to Columbus in the early-1990s, she continued to benefit from meditating, walking with the Bexley Volkssporters and the arts, frequently with the Bexley Activities Club. A longtime member of First Lutheran Church in Findlay, she joined Christ Lutheran in Bexley. Her legacy includes her sons and their families: Mark and wife Jane Gardner Schieber, with Marion’s grandchildren Bronwyn, Margo, Christian, and Nell-Morgan Vitale and husband Paul Vitale, with great-grandchildren Ellis, John and Lucy; Michael and Gitte Stryhn (deceased) with grandchildren Neil, Jacob, Noah and Caspian; and Curtis and Martine L. Stephens with grandchildren Evan and Flannery. A woman of remarkable grace, she was admired by friends and family for her will, determination and probing mind. Friends may call Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at THE WOODYARD EAST CHAPEL, 2300 East Livingston Avenue (Bexley) from 3-5 p.m., with a service honoring her life at 5:00 p.m., with Pastor Thomas A. Wolfe, presiding. Graveside service with burial, 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2015, at the Knollcrest Cemetery, Arcardia, Ohio. Donations in her memory can be made to the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association.
