Obituary

Mario E. Sanchez (Cucho), 98, of Dublin, passed away on April 21, 2026. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maria J. Sanchez (Fina), after 63 years of marriage; his mother, Mercedes Angulo Sanchez; his father, Mario Sanchez; his mother-in-law, Antonia Gonzalez; his father-in-law, Marcelino Garcia-Meras; his brothers, Armando and Enrique Sanchez; his son-in-law, Richard Hollingsworth; his brother-in-law, Carlos J. Mills; and his nephew, Carlos E. Mills. He is survived by his daughter, Elsie Sanchez; his son, Mario (Kay) Sanchez; his sister, Marcia Mills; his grandson, Mario Sanchez; his granddaughters, Marisa (Shawn) Stauffer and Miranda (Matt) Guth; his great-grandchildren, Logan Sanchez, Cameron Stauffer, Max Guth, and Madeline and Kendall Stauffer; as well as his niece, Karen Mills (Gustavo Urdaneta), and his nephew, Jorge Sanchez. Mario immigrated from Havana, Cuba, with his family, and eventually made Columbus his home. He retired from Columbus Pest Control after 47 years of dedicated service. Family was the most important aspect of his life; he adored his children and son and daughter-in-law, and he shared a remarkable, unbreakable bond of love with his grandchildren that lasted until the end. He was a patient man who loved drawing, music, photography, baseball, and cars. He enjoyed simple pleasures, such as ironing, and cherished visiting his sister, Marcia, her husband, Carlos, his nephew, Carlos, and his niece, Karen, in Houston. He treasured his long-time friends, many of whom he had known since his time in Cuba. Our lives will never be the same without him.

I met Mr Sanchez while running with son Mario back in the high school days. He was always smiling, and great to talk to. What a life. It should be a movie. His legacy is in great hands through his fabulous family. Rest easy Mario Sr, Mario Jr, my friend, will take it from here. Job We'll Done!!

Our lives as we grew up were so intermingled that the loss of Josefina, and now Cucho, is especially heartfelt. They were truly special people. We are so sorry for your/our loss. May your memories help you all as you navigate through this new life.

It was a pleasure taking care of Mario, he was so sweet and kind even when we had to do things he didn't want. I will miss his smile especially when I walked in his room. Hugs to family.
