Obituary

Mara F. Castricone age 81, passed peacefully in her sleep on November 23, 2025 in Columbus, Ohio from natural causes. Mara was born on December 16, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois and spent much of her life in Columbus, Ohio where she attended Grandview High School and The Ohio State University. She then lived for several years in Marin County, California before ultimately returning to Columbus. Mara began her career at Columbus State Community College and later joined the State of Ohio Bureau of Jobs and Family Services until she retired in 2004. A true lover of nature, Mara was an avid bird enthusiast and a devoted pet parent to her beloved cockatiel "Copey." She enjoyed sewing and was deeply engaged in politics and remained committed to supporting causes she believed in throughout her life. Mara was known for her generosity, honesty, and wry humor and she nurtured many lifelong friendships and was treasured by all who knew her. She is survived by her nieces, Celeste Monette, Amy Garner Huff, and Sofia Castricone; and by her cousins, Eva (Wheeler) Goode, Ninna (Wheeler) Anderson, Jamie Wheeler, and their families. She was preceded in death by her mother, Martha (Wheeler) Castricone; father, Alfonso Castricone; and brother, Lincoln Castricone. Mara will be deeply missed by her dear friends Carolyn Martinez, Tina Betz, Francine Knapp, Nellie Nelson, David Samadi, Sharron Burke, Sharon Newell, and the many others who were fortunate to be part of her life. There will be a visitation on Sunday December 7, 2025 at the John Quint Treboni FH 1177 W 5th Ave. Columbus, Ohio 43212 from 2-5 pm with a Celebration of Life Service culminating at 5pm.
