Obituary

Karen Layton Rogers, age 64, of Grove City, born February 3, 1960 to Ralph and Pat Layton, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her husband, Don and her daughter, Haley, on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 after an extended illness. She was a graduate of Grandview Heights High School and The Ohio State University. She was employed by Southwest City schools, most recently at Monterey Elementary School where staff graciously donated their sick time to support her through her illness. Karen's early career was in the travel business, where she received multiple Pacesetter awards at American Express Travel. Karen grew up with the joy of large family gatherings, including fond memories of being together with the Tosi cousins. She was an avid book reader and when younger, would return home from the library with a wagon full of books. Karen would always choose to read a book over watching TV, unless it was General Hospital. Karen and Don met on a blind date in January 1992 and married on February 27, 1994 in Hawaii. They created a beautiful "farm life" at their historic home that they restored and renovated. Don enjoyed Karen's many talents, especially her cooking, gardening, and cleaning. Karen and Don traveled internationally and experienced many beautiful places together, before having Haley in 1998. Karen was a dedicated mom to her only child, Haley to whom she imparted her work ethic and frugality. Karen also had a special love for her girlfriends, with whom she golfed, travelled, and enjoyed time often together in the "Party Barn." Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Pat Layton, and is survived by husband, Don; daughter, Haley (Justin Hill); step-children, Tiffany and Chris; step-grandchildren, Anthony and Caleb; siblings, Lynne (David) Walter, Mike (Barbi) Layton; uncle, Jim Layton, and many nieces and nephews who adored her. A visitation will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home 1177 W 5th Ave, Columbus Ohio 43212 from 3-5 pm with a Celebration of Life service at 5pm.

How to even begin to describe what a close and wonderful relationship I had with my beloved cousin for so many years is nearly impossible. Sharing hilarious moments and laughter from toddlers to adults. Food, family, parties, vacations, holidays, and whenever I moved to - she was there. I’ll miss her and will be forever grateful for a lifetime of memories with her, my beautiful cousin.

To all of the family I am so saddened by Karen's passing. She was a wonderful person and cousin. I loved her laugh. Made me laugh and feel happy when I heard it. Growing up the Tose cousins were a close knit group and we had such fun together. Love to all.

I’m deeply saddened by Karen’s passing. I have so many wonderful memories of times spent with her in high school and at OSU. Karen was smart, fun and a loyal friend. In between editing my term papers with expert skill, she convinced me to join the OSU ski club in 1980 just to get on their bus for spring break in Florida. We had a blast!

To Karen’s family I’m wishing you peace and comfort in the days ahead.

Karen and Lynn were the greatest at putting up with Mike and me when we were kids. They always had the brightest, warmest disposition. Karen always treated me and my wife Kim so well when we'd visit with the Laytons and Toses. And when she was a young teen, I mostly remember her --and Lynn-- taking rides at our house all day on my brother Dave's Honda 70---and laughing and giggling the entire time. Spriggses always LOVED our visits with the Laytons! Love and God Bless....

I was so sorry to hear of Karen’s passing. She and the entire Layton family were always very nice and supportive to me in my adolescent years, even when I didn’t really deserve it. She was a genuinely nice person and had a laugh that you would never forget. Unfortunately, I just learned of this tragic news yesterday. I hope that her siblings, family and close friends are able to recover from this loss and can begin to focus on the many great memories that you have in hearts. I’m truly sorry for your loss.
