Obituary

Joe Martone, age 81, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023 at The Grand in Dublin, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents Sam and Viola (Gross) Martone. Joe is survived by sisters, Shirley Bell and Rebecca (Jeff) Ward; nieces, Samantha Bell, Stephanie Saunders and Olivia Ward; sons, Brad (Carrie) and Mike (Kelli); and grandchildren, Presley, Sam, Bronson and Vincent. Also surviving Joe is Bonnie Carter, his life partner of 27 years and her children, Katie Hall, Sean (Angela) Coppler, Emily (Lin) Pursel and Joya (Forrest) Cummings; Bonnie's grandchildren, Andrew, Carly, Ella, Holden, Ben, Ridley, Caden, Carter and Coby; and great-granddaughter, Cora who will all greatly miss their "Papa Joe." Joe was born in Youngstown, Ohio, moving to Lexington, Kentucky where he graduated from Lexington Catholic High School in 1961. He served in the Army Reserves. He worked as a Hostess route driver for Continental Baking Company before starting a 33 year career as Sales Manager and Director of Sales for Hill Distributing Company. Joe retired in 2012 but soon began a third career working in the produce department at The Andersons and in the deli at Weilands Market. Joe, an avid sports fan, enjoyed watching sports on TV, cheering on the Guardians, Cavaliers, Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He also watched every old western and vintage movie ever made. He loved working in the yard and was adept at creating elaborate flower displays to set off the entrance of his homes. He hosted many OSU vs. Michigan parties and New Year's Day dinners with his legendary salad always on the menu. Friends and family may join in a memorial service celebrating Joe's life on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home, 1177 W. 5th Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43212 from 4-7 pm.
