Obituary

Joseph L. DeRubertis (DeRoberts) age 78, passed away Sat Nov 8, 2025 at his home. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on Aug 3, 1947. Joe was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Ellen (Atwell) DeRubertis; nephew, Eric Bohn; and good friend Glen Woodward. Joe is survived by siblings, Cathy (Tim) Smith, Diane (Charlie) Thomas, Joann (Sam) Cline, Marlene (Dave) Pickney, Dave (Amy), and Mark (Mary Beth); and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Joe was one of the original members of school classes started by the Council for Retarded Citizens in the early 1950's. He attended ARC Industries workshop from the 1960's to the early 2000's, he finished his career at the Goodwill Industries. Known to many as the "Mayor," he would make his way to the administrator's office, whether they were busy or not, take a seat for a quick chat where they would say, "it's just Joe, he's fine." Joe was the ribbon cutter at the opening of Kimberly Woods Residential for the disabled where he was a resident for several years. He also enjoyed summer camp outings with Recreation Unlimited, watching his Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds. Joe was a kind hearted soul. His handicap was no match for his ability to charm people and make many friends wherever he went. Special thanks to everyone who cared for Joe; we are so appreciative of everything that was done for him over his life. Please keep Joe in your memories. There will be a visitation on Sunday Nov. 16, 2025 at the John Quint Treboni FH from 2-5 pm and a Private Graveside Service at St. Joseph Cemetery.

So sorry for the loss of Joey. I had the priviledge of being his 'girlfriend' once. May his sweet soul rest in peace. And may God hold him in the palm of His hand.

You are an amazing, wonderful family whom I’ve had privilege of sharing for many…..many years! Love all of you.
Fondest memory of Joe is him sitting in his chair, rocking with attitude!! Occasionally a cigar in his mouth. Always made me giggle. Then the “F” bomb may drop🥰. Love to all of you
