Obituary

With heavy hearts and deep love, we share the passing of John William Bennett Jr. age 76, a devoted husband, loving father, proud PawPaw, and honorable veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jo Ann Bennett; and brother, Andy Bennett. He was born on April 20, 1949 to John and Jo Ann (Jones) Bennett. John grew up in a lively, close-knit home with ten siblings- five brothers and five sisters. The values of family, loyalty, and service were woven into his character from the very beginning. Those same values guided him through life and into the United States Navy, where he served his country with dignity and pride. In 1977, John married the love of his life, Connie (Sliemers). Together, they created a home full of warmth and love, and raised their three children- Johnny Bennett, Brian (Courtney) Bennett, and Erin (Curtis) Steube. He adored his grandchildren- Mackenzie, Kaiden, Brooke, Willow, Oliver, and Callahan- who filled his later years with pride and purpose. He especially enjoyed cheering from the sidelines of their sporting events, attending any game he could. John was the kind of person who showed up- always. Whether you needed a listening ear, a word of encouragement, or just someone to make you laugh, he was there. His love was quiet but fierce, his loyalty unshakable. He gave without asking for anything in return and made life better just by being in it. His deep, belly laugh was contagious and could instantly spread throughout a room. He leaves behind not just memories, but a lasting example of how to live with heart, humor, and integrity. Though our grief is great, so too is our gratitude- for the time we had, the love we shared, and the legacy he leaves behind. There will be a visitation on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 4-7 pm at John Quint Treboni Funeral Home 1177 W 5th Ave Columbus, Ohio 43212. There will be a prayer service at 4:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 1600 N. Hague Ave. Columbus, Ohio 43204 at 11 am followed by a procession to St. Joseph Cemetery 6440 S. High Street Lockbourne, Ohio 43137 for burial. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at St. Margaret immediately following the burial to continue sharing memories and honoring John's life.
