After celebrating 99 years on this earth, Gilda Romas Savko peacefully completed her journey here on October 25, 2022. Gilda was known for her kindness and respect, having touched many people throughout her lifetime. She was raised in the St. Clair Ave/Milo Grogan community in Columbus, Ohio. She attended her beloved St. Peter’s Parish School and was a proud graduate of Central High School. Gilda had a gift for sharing her many talents as church pianist, choir director, and vocal coach to so many throughout her lifetime. She and her husband, Nick, lovingly raised their family in Upper Arlington. Together, she and her husband founded the Savko Brothers Concrete and Excavating Company in 1946, and this legacy continues today. Gilda was proud of her heritage and was one of the founding families of the Columbus Italian Festival and regularly attended St. John The Baptist Italian Catholic Church. She surrounded herself with numerous life-long friends whom she met within the Italian community, as well as a variety of social, political and charitable organizations throughout her lifetime. She was a respected businesswoman, matriarch of the Savko family and cherished by the Italian community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nickolas M. Savko. She is survived by her four children; Victoria Savko, Mary Angela Savko, Stephen (Ramona) Savko, and Martin (Alisa) Savko, Sr. Her legacy continues through these children, as well as her 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Friends and family may call on Friday, October 28th, 2022, from 4-7pm at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home,1177 West 5th Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43212.
There will be a prayer service immediately following the calling hours at 7pm. There will be a Mass of Christian burial on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 10:00am at Our Lady of Victory Church, 1559 Roxbury Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43212, with entombment immediately following at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
