Obituary
George grew up on Staten Island in New York City. At the age of fourteen he attended Staunton Military Academy where he made lifelong friends. His education continued to Marshall University where earned his degree. After graduating he moved to Logan, Ohio where he was a teacher, coach and City Councilman. Bitten by the political bug, he became the Director of Governmental Affairs for the Ohio Osteopathic Association and the Medical School at Ohio University. The jewel in his crown was the passage of H.B. 229 which was the creation of the Medical School at the University. George received many deserving awards in his career but the latest was "The Dunigan Award for Osteopathic Advocacy" which will be presented to a student yearly at graduation. He learned of this before he passed and was so honored. (of course if you knew George then you already knew all this!!) George was a consummate people person. George's heart was as big as his persona. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Doris; and stepson, Casey. George is survived by his loving wife Pam; sister, Patty; brother, Bobby (Judy); special cousin, Wayne (Donna); children, Tracey (Tab), Kevin, Tracie (Tim), Stephanie (Fred); and his partner in crime Bob McEaneney! He was also special "PopPop" to Sam, Tessa, Erin, Ryan, Max, and Sarah. A visitation will be held on Friday Sept 15, 2023 at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home, 1177 W 5th Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43212 from 10 am until 12 noon with a Celebration of Life Service to follow. Contributions can be made to "The Casey Mentel Memorial Fund" at St. Charles Prep School. 2010 E. Broad St. Bexley, Ohio 43209

George on the few occasions we had to chat, that Fighting Irish charisma showed eloquently - rightfully proud and loyal. Farewell, our friend. I first met George at an OAPA board meeting. The OOA sent George as a representative. We were struggling to get prescribing privileges and the OOA was the first organization to step up and help us. It would be a long time before our law passed, but we owe a lot of credit to George and OOA for their years of support. George's cousin, Mary Healey-Sedutto is founder and President of Hope for a Healthier Hunanity from Staton Island, NY and George connected us, as I was a Medical Missionary. We all made a lasting relationship and later George and Dr. Peter Bell would nominate me for the OOA Humanitarian Award which I received in 2004. I will never forgot George and his kind heart for our mission work. My heart goes out to Pam as he was a steadfast rock for her throughout her life. He will be missed. We should all step forward to help Pam during this difficult transition. With Much Love and Prayers!

Although I never met your dad in person, (we only spoke on the phone) I feel like I knew him. The way you spoke about him with such pride, love, admiration, and respect. You told me that you were the luckiest girl in the world to have him for a father. I am sure he felt he was the luckiest man in the world to have you for a daughter as well. He will always be with you and you will always have such beautiful memories to cherish. I'm so sorry for you and your whole family and everyone who knew him. My only regret is that we never met in person! Rest in peace, Mr. Dunigan! You truly will never be forgotten. ❤️

As a newly elected State Representative in 1975 who campaigned for more Medical Doctors in Ohio I met George Dunigan who was working to establish an Osteopathic Medical School in Ohio. We became instant friends and maintained our friendship over the years. I thought highly of him.

I had the great opportunity of knowing George through OU College of Medicine where I supported his College-granted computer equipment. George was wonderful to work with and I truly enjoyed all of the stories he shared and it was easy to see how much he loved and enjoyed his family. He treated everyone like a friend and will be greatly missed.

I had the privilege of working with George on health care issues for over 30 years. He was a good friend, mentor and a great source for information. You could learn more in one conversation with George than a whole year in college. “ Go rest high on that mountain my friend, your work on earth is done”.

It has been my pleasure to know, to work with, and to be a friend of George for over 40 years. He was the greatest advocate for the Osteopathic Profession and OUHCOM in Ohio. His legacy was cemented with "The Dunigan Award for Osteopathic Advocacy" given by Dean Ken Johnson and OUHCOM.
George would light up the room with his jovial personality and quick wit. If there was a medical issue at the Statehouse, George was on it. George so personified the Osteopathic Profession and commanded respect by everybody at the Statehouse. He did so much with so little but he did it with "Blue smoke and mirrors" and the Dunigan Way.The stories he tells will be missed and I will miss him. My sincere condolences to Pam and the whole Dunigan Family.

I first met George when we were new teachers at Logan about 50 years ago. I know he had great career success, but he was also an outstanding teacher. As you can imagine, the students loved him. He was so positive and outgoing that he would light up any room he walked into, yet he was totally unpretentious. Certainly one of the good guys. My deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends

After hearing of George's passing only good memories flooded my mind. He was an excellent teacher and coach during some of my school years and a trusted friend in the years that followed. Off and on over the years we enjoyed lunches together, reminiscing, having good belly laughter and talking politics whenever time allowed. I would call him Mr. Dunigan and he would keep reminding me his name was George! We would laugh as I would remind him old habits were hard to break for I had great respect for him. George personality was off the charts; his love for his family and friends was evident in so many ways. George had a wonderful sense of humor, keeping life in perspective and staying positive. What a wonderful, caring, and kind person to me and many others. George had a servants heart! I will miss him! My prayer is that the Lord comforts you and gives you the peace that surpasses all understanding during this difficult time.

Reading the various messages posted here I realize my friendship with Dunigan was very different than many. For starters, I never called him George - ever. He was always just “Dunigan.” I have known him since the late 1970s but was only with him in person about a half dozen times. We had a friend in common but I only saw him when he went to DC on business. We mostly talked on the phone - I would often call him when I needed his sense of humor. The last time I saw him in person was in 1983. I lost him for years but reconnected with him about 10 years ago. Our friendship had nothing to do with osteopaths, but we had so many other things in common. One of those things was John Denver - we both loved his music. Dunigan was the first to clue me into the meaning of the song, The Wings That Fly Me Home; he talked about how this was Denver’s description of God. It’s been on my mind so much since hearing of his passing. I choose to believe it is what he experienced. I also choose to believe I’ll see you again, Dunigan.
