Obituary

Geoffrey Michael Bruce, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on April 14, 2026. Geoff was born on November 9, 1964, to Michael and Judith (Hilsheimer) Bruce and was raised in Columbus along with his younger brother Jason. He graduated from Bishop Watterson High School in 1983 and later attended Ohio State University while serving in the Air Force Reserve. Geoff built a successful career as a Chef in Columbus’ restaurant industry and was known not only for his talent, but for his patience and compassion in the kitchen. He was an avid music fan, particularly a lover of local music, as well as a prolific reader. Geoff is preceded in death by his father, Mike. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Wendy; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Erik Hansen; brother, Jason; and mother, Judi. To honor Geoff’s lifelong love of all animals, but especially dogs, contributions can be made to CHA Animal Hospital of Columbus, Ohio. Link below the poem.

I sit beside the fire and think of all that I have seen of meadow-flowers and butterflies in summers that have been;

Of yellow leaves and gossamer in autumns that there were, with morning mist and silver sun and wind upon my hair.

I sit beside the fire and think of how the world will be when winter comes without a spring that I shall ever see.

For still there are so many things that I have never seen: in every wood in every spring there is a different green.

I sit beside the fire and think of people long ago and people who will see a world that I shall never know.

But all the while I sit and think of times there were before, I listen for returning feet and voices at the door.

-JRR Tolkien

I’m so sorry for your loss. I worked with Geoff and he always made sure I had food at work, and asked me to email him if I ever needed anything. We shared a love of dogs, and he was a fellow Veteran. I enjoyed our conversations at work, and he was always checking on everyone to ensure they had a great experience. Our family is sending all the love

Geoff was a wonderful neighbor. Always willing to take time for a friendly, encouraging conversation. I always looked forward to those conversations usually when he was working in his side yard. I will miss his easy smile and encouraging words. My thoughts and prayers are with Wendy, Geoff's mom, his daughter, his brother and all the other family members and friends who will miss him.
