Garnet A. Blanton, age 88, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away at 6:23 pm on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at the Kobacker House, surrounded by her loved ones. She was a graduate of Oil Springs High School in Oil Springs, Kentucky in 1954 and was a proud retiree of PNC Bank. After her time at the bank, she picked up a part-time holiday job at Kohls which lasted over a decade where she built lifelong friendships. Garnet was a fan of all sports, but especially loved cheering on the Kentucky Wildcats Basketball Team. She was a wonderful wife to Rudy and mother to her two sons, Marty and Tim. She was a devoted grandmother to Haley and Justin and adored her great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Milo. She was fondly called Mamaw by many. A few of Garnet's hobbies include cooking (biscuits and gravy with fried apples), going to bingo on Sundays with Donna Strejcek, yearly Memorial Day trips to Paintsville, Kentucky, playing cards and words with friends, eating out with loved ones, and going to Florida with her two best friends Jan Reed and Phyllis Pickle to name a few. Garnet took pride in getting her hair cut, colored and permed regularly and wouldn't leave the house without wearing lipstick. She truly was beautiful inside and out. Garnet was born on December 15, 1935 in Paintsville, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Flem and Lennie (Spradlin) LeMaster. She married her husband, Rudolph "Rudy" Blanton in 1955 while he was in service. Garnet is survived by her two grandchildren, Justin Alan Blanton of Marysville, Ohio and Haley Blanton Sprague of Columbus, Ohio; and daughter-in-law, Donna Monnette of Powell, Ohio. Garnet was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy; and sons, Marty and Tim. A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 4-7 pm at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home, 1177 W. 5th Ave Columbus Ohio 43212.
