Obituary

Francis Luke Daniel, 90, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 23. Luke leaves his earthly life to be reunited for Christmas and for eternity with his beloved wife Mary Frances, and dear grandson Frank Dury. Luke was born in Tiffin Ohio May 20, 1920 the 6th of 10 children of Dr. and Mrs. Charles Daniel. He attended St. Joseph’s College and while there learned to fly. He left school to serve in WWII as a Naval Aviator, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. After the war, he enrolled at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. After graduating from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service, Luke was hired by Sears Roebuck & Co. to open their first store in Rio de Janero, Brazil. After a two-year adventure, Luke and Mary Frances moved to Chicago where he continued with Sears. In 1956, Luke bought the Jackson-Guldan violin manufacturing company in Columbus. He and Mary Frances settled in Upper Arlington where they lived for 47 years. During the 1960’s Luke converted the company to produce acoustic guitars. He later worked for The Ohio State University in the College of Engineering and University Hospitals. In addition to his professional endeavors, Luke was a proponent of many Catholic causes and a champion for the rights of unborn children. He co-founded the Eucharistic Vigil Association and published the book used in the vigils local churches. He enjoyed his association as a member of the Serra Club and cherished the Serra trip that he and Mary Frances took to Rome. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church for over 40 years. An avid reader, armchair philosopher, and deep-thinker, he was always engaged in current events, conservative politics, and great books. His 7 children and their families remain to mourn his passing and treasure his long, faithful, happy life; Marie (Stephen) Blubaugh, Naperville, IL, and children Janet, Daniel, Curtis. Joan (Michael) Dury, Upper Arlington, and children Ann (Paul) Fiorilli, Meg and Tom Dury, Annette Daniel, Upper Arlington, Margaret (Michael) Ferrin, W. I am sorry for your loss as well as my own. Grandpa Luke was a strong spiritual man whose example of faith will help to guide us all for years to come. It brings me happiness to know that he has been peacefully reunited with Mary Francis in the eternal bliss of heaven. I wish that I could be by your side for his memorial but know that I am there in spirit and my prayers are with you all.
