Domenica Canini, age 87, passed away peacefully at Riverside Methodist Hospital on August 3, 2010, surrounded by her loving family at her bedside. Domenica was born in Alvito, Italy, on September 22, 1922. In 1940, at the age of 17, she married Domenico Canini in Alvito, Italy. Shortly after, he was called to serve his country in WWII for several years. In 1956, her husband again left for America to start a new life for their family, but they were reunited in 1959 when Domenica and her daughters embarked on a 2-week journey by ship to America. Domenica worked for 15 years at Julian-Kokenge shoe factory, and for several years in the restaurant industry. Most of all, Domenica dedicated her life to her family and proudly displayed her strong love for them by constantly instilling the values of maintaining their Italian culture. One of her greatest pleasures was preparing her wonderful home-cooked Italian meals to a table surrounded by family and friends. Despite her pain and physical ailments during her last few years, her love for her family and friends always shined through. Domenica is preceded in death by her parents, Giovanni and Valeria Capoccia, and brother, Mariano Capoccia. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 70 years, Domenico Canini, daughters, Nicolina (Antonio) Capoccia, Maria (Giuseppe) Canini, Liliana (Armando) Tempesta, sisters, Elena (Gerardo) Fantozzi, Madalena (Donato) Pellegrini in Italy and sister-in-law Gaetana Capoccia, grandchildren, Frances Ricci, Marisa Bittoni, Danny Capoccia, Angela Cua, Franco Canini, Antonella Iacobone, Roberto and Anthony Tempesta and their spouses, plus 16 great grandchildren and many friends.
