Darlene “Cookie” Carrel of Dublin, passed away on August 24, 2025. She was born on December 10, 1941, in Marietta, Ohio to Virgil and Carrol (DeLong) Carrel. She graduated from Dexter City High School in 1959.
She retired after 31 years from Ohio Bell/Ameritech in December of 1991. Cookie was a kind and gentle soul who dedicated a great deal of her life working with causes that were dear to her heart. Most important was her beloved Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena where she was involved for over 20 years. Other involvements included a Red Coat at The OSU stadium, serving as a Palace Theater usher, volunteering for Children’s Hospital at the Muirfield/Memorial Golf Tournament, preserving photo graphic memories for Special Olympics and as a concierge at the Coumbus Convention Center.
Cookie lived for many years in her home in Grandview where she spent her spare time researching her family ancestry. She loved to travel by taking multiple cruises and road trips across the country.
Cookie is survived by brothers Gary “Skip” (Esther) and Jerry (Donna). Sisters Sandra, Marilyn (Stuart) Kuntz, Connie (Richard) DeMilo, and Deborah (Michael) Anthony. Aunt Cookie was beloved by her nieces and nephews David and Heidi Carrel, Jordan and Garth Kuntz, Tessa and Chip Carrel, Joseph and Adam DeMilo, Christoper Anthony and Staci Heckel. She was preceded in death by her niece Brooke Kuntz.
In accordance with her wishes her body has been cremated. Her family wishes to celebrate her life on Monday, September 15, 2025 from 2-4 pm at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home 1177 W. 5th Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43212.
