Obituary
Daniel "Dan" Marvin Canada was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven April 30, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents Anne and Marvin Canada; sisters Jean Snider, Marilyn Denman and Nancy Morehart; grandsons Shaun Canada and Trent Shell and daughter-in-law Tess Canada Dan is survived by wife of 64 years, Rosemary; daughter Teri (Gene) Shell; son Chris Canada; grandchildren Shannon (Aaron) Martin, Jordan (Sarah) Canada and Taylor Canada and great-grandchildren Adelynn, Stella and Elliott Martin. Dan retired from the Columbus Police force in 1996 after 31 years of service. He then went on to work another 13 years as a clerk and bailiff for Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. Dan was a member of the Shamrock Club of Columbus; the Columbus Maennerchor Men's Choir and a reader at St. Patrick's Church. Dan was a social butterfly. No matter where he was, the local Kroger, the gas station, church, local restaurants he always ran into someone he knew. He was a great guy, a kind man who smiled thru the chaos of life. He always made a way for his family even when the requests were over the top. He was a peacemaker. Dan had a dry sense of humor. He loved to watch The Three Stooges and called the Roadrunner cartoons his "training films". He had a love for classical music and enjoyed listening to the Three Tenors and pianists Byron Janis and Van Cliburn. Dan studied to become a deacon but life got in the way however his love for the Lord Jesus Christ never wavered. Dan will be forever missed but never forgotten. The family will have a visitation on Wednesday May 6, 2026 at the John Quint Treboni FH 1177 W. 5th Ave. Columbus Ohio 43212 from 11 am - 1 pm with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 1 pm. A procession to St. Joseph Cemetery, 6440 S. High St. Lockbourne, Ohio 43137 will follow.

It was an honor to know and serve your dad in this season of life. The love for his family and those around him was an inspiration. What I will take away from our relationship is that a sense of humor is always a way to connect to others and bring relationships closer. My deepest sympathies to your family. May God’s peace bring comfort in the days ahead. Peace, Becky Converse

I remember Dan walking the halls of HQs and sitting at the information desk and giving direction to new Officers with a smirky smile. He would kid with you but that smile would give him away.
My condolences to his family, he will be missed.

A fine man and a true gentleman!!! I remember Dan over my stretch at CPD 72-95, with always pleasant memories. He helped out in greeting the Irish Police Force Choir when the did their concert in Columbus, he was right there making sure everyone was seen to, comfortable and welcomed most warmly!!! A true Irish gentleman, he was..

Dear Teri and Rosemary,
One of my fondest memories was watching Danny wash the dishes while helping Rosemary cook for the priests, with Rosemary’s apron on, and his gun on his hip! It used to make me laugh!
I also had a lot of fun drinking wine on their back patio with Rosemary and Danny! He always filled our wine glasses to the very top! What fond memories I have of Danny, such a kind person! He will be missed! God Bless, love,
Beth Ann

Danny was a lovely man and a true gentleman. He was so very generous in giving his time and energy to St. Patrick's as a lector and as a helpmate to your mom when she worked for the Dominicans there. I, too, remember happily his to-the-brim wine pours. His care for his family and others was always present. My sincere condolences and love to all.

I met Dan only a few times when I played music at the nursing home. His (dry) sense of humor was endearing, he had the most welcoming and kind smile, and he always seemed to be in control of the situation! I’m so glad I got to meet him. May the Lord bring comfort to your hearts during this time of loss.
