Obituary

Clara Mary Fala, age 99, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. She was born May 28, 1925, in Columbus, Ohio. She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfonso and Pia (Ettore) Fala; sisters Lillian Fala, Sister Julia Fala, OSF, M. Jean Rizek (Namie); and brothers Carlo (Rita) Fala and Allan (Judy) Fala. She is survived by devoted sisters Shirley Fala and Joan (Charles) White and many beloved and special nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends. Clara worked from the age of 16 until her retirement. She started out ironing and doing laundry, then went on to work for Timken Roller Bearings. From there, she was employed at Western Electric until she retired. Clara was a very hard worker all her life caring for her mother and countless others. She was always there for everyone. An excellent cook and baker, she shared her talents with family and friends alike, hosting weekly Sunday extended family dinners for decades, which included many generations. She loved gardening and yard work. She did all the grocery shopping each week, spending hours at Meijer, and taking time to visit those she'd run into. Although Clara never learned to drive, she and her sisters shared a close bond, and she could always depend on them to get her to appointments or anywhere she needed to go. She loved all her siblings, nephews, nieces, and extended family very much. Special blessings and thanks to beloved niece and nephew for their care and help Marlene (Terry) Riley and Tom (Kathy) Rizek. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Brenda (Heart to Heart Caregiving) and her girls for their selfless care and dedication to Clara; to Kate and Tasha (Tranquility Hospice) for their compassionate care in Clara's final days; and former aide Catherine Knight. Clara was a member of Amici D'oro, St. Matthias Church in Columbus, and most recently, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Westerville. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 9:30-10:30 am at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 313 N. State Street, Westerville, Ohio 43082. A Funeral Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity, Holy Province, 4421 Lower River Road, Stella Niagara, New York 14114. Thoughts and prayers for your loss. My grandmother, Hazel Wildman, and her husband Ellis, were good friends of the Fala sisters, whom she met through Lillian at OSU. I have wonderful memories of visiting their home, with my grandparents, for delicious home cooked Italian meals, as well as them visiting my grandparents home to enjoy the lake and picnic. Clara was just so sweet.
