Beverly Burgoon, lovingly known as BB, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, November 1st, 2024. Beverly was born in Toledo, Ohio to Mary Charlotte Jones Sawyer and Alva Judson Sawyer on September 17, 1930. Her mother was from Delaware, Ohio and her father from Gallipolis, Ohio. The couple met at Buns restaurant in Delaware, Ohio while attending Ohio Wesleyan University. Beverly is descended from a long line of American patriots, including the revolutionary war, civil war, and also had passengers on the Mayflower. She had a delightful childhood growing up in the suburb of Upper Arlington, Ohio. And, as an active teenager she loved riding her bike, was on the synchronised swim team, an Upper Arlington High School Cheerleader and on the homecoming court. She graduated from in 1948 and went on to attend Ohio State University. She was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority remaining active throughout her life. Beverly talked often about her 1st Community Church experiences at Camp Akita. She still had her block of wood from camp. Beverly enjoyed visits to the family cottage overlooking Lake Erie in Huron and loved going to the farm in Gallipolis spending time with family. Beverly married Joseph John Burgoon, from Carlisle, Pennsylvania on July 24, 1959 at 1st Community Church in Columbus. They relocated to Akron, Ohio where they raised their four children. She was a devoted wife and mother and cultivated life long friendships in Akron. Some favorite activities were collecting buckeyes with the children for keepsakes, supplying warm sandwiches for high school tailgating and attending the annual UA parade. Beverly was an avid football fan and could be found cheering on Ohio State, Alabama and Auburn games all in one day. When her husband retired from the banking business the couple moved back to Upper Arlington and Beverly was able to reconnect with high school friends and they shared many happy times together reminiscing about “the good old” days! And, in the last four years of her life she was blessed to have the companionship of her special friend Mr. Bill. Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, Charlotte and AJ Sawyer, husband Joe Burgoon and sister Caroline Havens. She is survived by her four children, Greg Burgoon (Debra), Kit/Kristen Lupsor (Daryl), Bob Burgoon (Martha) and Beth Sarno (Scott). Beverly has 7 grandchildren, Greg’s two children Matt Burgoon and Lindsay Kalmakis, Kit’s children, Maggie Grosso and William Porterfield, Bob’s son Christopher Burgoon and Beth’s children, Drew Sarno and Caroline Sarno. Her 7 great-grandchildren are; Gavin, Theo and Alexandra Kalmakis, Samson and Chester Burgoon, Gabriella and Eleanor Grosso. Beverly was the quintessential Cheerleader her entire life! Cheering on her UA High School teams, supporting her husband, nurturing her friendships and cheering on her children to be their best selves. A celebration of her life will be held at a future date.
