Augusta "Peg" Passero
Peg Passero, age 100, passed away on a beautiful spring afternoon on May 19, 2022, in the month of Mother Mary, as was her wish for years. She died at Wesley Ridge Retirement Community where she lived for 5 years. She was born Augustina Asunta Iannarino on October 28th, 1921, the 14th of 16 children and the daughter of Italian immigrant parents, Augustino Iannarino and Maria (Purpura) Iannarino.
Peg resided all of her life in Columbus, Ohio. With her beloved husband, Silvio James, they lovingly raised 8 children of their own. She was happiest when she had all of her kids around her. Her devotion to family was seen by all who knew her. That love has carried her children throughout their lives and was the example that she set for all to follow. We will continue to carry her in that spirit.
Her first child was born just before WWII ended and she was among the many women who worked during the war making fuel gauges for planes. Twenty-four years later, when her last child went to kindergarten, she entered the workforce again where she was employed at Xerox Education Publications. Later, after the death of her husband, she worked for several years at Lazarus where she charmed customers in the jewelry department.
After she retired, she was a passionate volunteer at St. Pius X Catholic Church in various capacities, including preparing and serving bereavement luncheons, feeding the homeless and serving as a Eucharistic Minister. Peg was also an Associate of the Dominican Sisters of Peace and volunteered at Mohun Health Care Center caring for the aging Sisters offering food and companionship. Her volunteer efforts, which reflected her lifelong and generous service to her community, also included staffing election day polling places for many years.
Peg is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Silvio, oldest son, John, 15 siblings, son-in-law Mike Bango, numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and many dear friends. Survived by children Joanne Bango, Tom (Bette), Rick (Ambra), Billy (Siobhan) Terre, Chandra, and James M.; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
We will miss her vitality and zest for life. She was a beautiful example of love in action and touched and inspired the hearts of so many with her sincerity, warmth and sense of humor. Her unwavering faith in God offered her deep comfort and was a guiding light throughout her life. Her love of life, her love of her children, and her love of God were traits that defined her so beautifully.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Wesley Hospice for their loving care and for all the staff at Wesley Ridge for their heartfelt attention to her over these last 5 years. We offer a special thank you to her Hospice Nurse, Jami Spence, for consistently going above and beyond her duties to serve mom with great love, warmth and friendship.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday 4-7 pm at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home 1177 W Fifth Ave. The Funeral Mass 10:30 AM Thursday, May 26, 2022, St. Pius X Catholic Church,1051 Waggoner Road Reynoldsburg. Ohio 43068.
