Obituary

Ann Yezzi departed this life on July 19, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on September 13, 1931, she grew up in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from Upper Arlington High School. Ann received her Bachelor of Arts and master’s degrees in education from The Ohio State University. She taught elementary school and art for many years in Upper Arlington and Springfield Ohio. Ann was devoted to the arts and the theater. She worked in mixed mediums and was active in several theater groups, including Stadium Little Theater, Vaud-Villities, and Theater Bristol, in Bristol, Virginia. One of her favorite Christmas traditions was to put cash in abstract sculptures or brain-teaser puzzles for her grandchildren to figure out. She also loved to draw with her granddaughters, Jillian and Micah (both of whom she regarded as exceptionally talented). She was an avid reader of modern philosophy and mythology. She adored Brendan and Aaron, for their devotion to their families and she was proud of all her great grandchildren, including the newest addition, Beckham. She was also proud of her three children, each with their distinct and unique personality. She especially was grateful for the care and comfort they provided during these past several months, particularly Bette, who spent countless hours managing everything (Adam and Jim concede this point, although Jim claimed to be the favorite there is no hard evidence for this; also a quick recognition of Ilene’s Sunday dinners which continued until she could no longer travel). Ann was preceded in death by her husband Ernie and is survived by her children: Bette Humphrey (Joe), Jim Burkart (Ilene), and Adam Yezzi (Estill Salyers). She was a proud grandmother to Jillian Humphrey, Brendan Humphrey (Katarina), Aaron Burkart (Chelsea), and Micah Burkart; great-grandchildren, Cayden, Brynlie, Keegan, Beckham, Kelly, and Tyson. A private memorial service will be held at noon on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at St. Joseph's Cemetery in the Our Mother of Sorrow's Chapel, with burial services immediately following. Family will gather at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Greater Columbus Arts Council, an organization that reflects Ann’s appreciation for creativity and community. The family will host a Celebration of Life at a date and time to be announced. Ann Yezzi will be deeply missed and lovingly remebered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Ann was truly one of a kind. When my dad (Tootie), her first cousin, died in 1976 she came to the funeral. She asked if we had room in the limousine for the ride to the cemetery. She then said, "If not, I can always ride up front with your father." I broke up laughing and said, "I'm so glad you're here, Ann!" Rest in peace, cuz!

Dear all,

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of Ayanamma. We lovingly called her Ayanamma — “amma” meaning mother, and “ayan” meaning a journey. To me, she was truly like a mother during my time in the USA — offering guidance, strength, and encouragement when I needed it most. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support gave me immense confidence and comfort, far away from home.

Her deep understanding of world philosophies was truly remarkable. But what made her unique was how she lived those values in everyday life — with grace, compassion, and clarity. She once took me to church and gently helped me understand what it truly meant to be a churchgoer — not just in belief, but in spirit. Later, when she visited India and came with me to a temple, I was deeply moved by what she said: “I don’t feel any difference between Gods.” With equal reverence and devotion, she prayed in the temple, radiating the same sacredness I saw in her every day.

When she stayed with us in India for a few days, she would join our daily prayers at home. Those short days with her remain some of the most cherished and unforgettable moments of my life — filled with peace, grace, and gentle affection.

I also fondly remember visiting her at her home and spending time with her and dear Ernie. The love and warmth they both shared left a lasting impression on me. Though Jim, Illene, and little Micah were living elsewhere at the time, I was later blessed to meet all of you — and I carry those memories very close to my heart.

Rest in peace, Ayanamma. Your love, spirit, and blessings will remain with us forever. You will always live on in our hearts.

With love and sympathy,
Sudarshan & Anjani

That woman was always smiling and happy. She was incredibly kind to me even though I barely knew her. I know she raised a beautiful, kind, loving family. She was truly an amazing woman and she will be missed. She gave so much love and positivity in this world.

It's the new thing to talk about how obituaries are always filled with tall tales and over exaggerations. None of this was true about Ann. She truly was one of the kindest, empathetic, selfless, and loving people I ever knew. She raised her family to be exactly like her. I am so sorry for your loss. She was truly a beautiful soul. She made friends everywhere she went.
