To the family of Alma:

I had planned to attend the funeral this morning but woke not feeling well.

My mother was Angelina Cenci and lived at the big white house on Glenn Avenue with all the Cenci's when she came from Italy with her brother Nicholas.

Your mother/grandmother took mom under her wings. She taught my mother to write, speak English. She taught her how to dress and put on makeup, iron and to cook a lot of the American/Italian dishes that we all make in our family now.

She helped my mom/dad plan their wedding, helping her pick her wedding dress, flowers, photographer and the church.

We lived in Canton, Oh and when we would come to Columbus to visit we would always come and visit your parents, Alma would always bring out the food for us we all we all love her food especially her cookies I have fond memories those visits.

I remember one day before my mother got sick she told me she had called Alma and they reminisced about the days they lived together. My mother was so very fond of her and thankful for how she helped her to feel wanted and loved in America. It was very difficult for mom as her mother died when she was two and was raised by her grandmother that she left to come to America. She couldn't speak our language nor did she know anyone, but her brother, Nick. My grandfather lived in the United States with the Cenci's. Your mother was there for her when she was so lonely and sad. Mom told me these stories over and over many times what a kind and special women she was.

My heartfelt sympathy to all of you. May the wonderful memories you all have of her be a source of comfort to you at this time.

Warmly,
Mary Lou Melaragno and family
