Willis H. Hodges, Jr., M.D.

Willis Holland Hodges, Jr., M.D., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, physician, and dear friend to many, passed into Eternal Life November 23, 2017, age 96, at the Forum at Knightsbridge in Columbus, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Rita S. Hodges; and his parents, Willis H. Hodges, Sr., M.D., and Jeannette R. Hodges of Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, November 3, 1921, graduated from Upper Arlington High School (Class of 1939), received a B.A. degree from Ohio State University and, in 1945, an M.D. degree from Duke University. He had additional training at Cincinnati General Hospital (where he met his wife-to-be) and then served as a medical officer in the U.S. Army (1946-48). Dr. Hodges was a member of the American Medical Association, the Ohio State Medical Association, the Columbus Academy of Medicine, and a Charter Member of the American Academy of Family Practice. He was a dedicated family physician, practicing in Columbus, Ohio, for almost 50 years and retiring in 1997 at the age of 75. After retiring, he worked several years as a volunteer driver for the Red Cross. He is survived by his four children: Rev. Fr. Robert Stephen Hodges, O.Praem., of Costa Mesa, California, John P. (Kathleen) Hodges of New Albany, Ohio, Kathleen A. (Michael) Lupidi of Liberty Township, Ohio, and Susan M. (Samuel) Nemer of Columbus, Ohio; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Friends may call Monday, November 27, 2017, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. (with a Prayer Vigil at 7:30 p.m.) at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 W. Fifth Avenue, Columbus, Ohio. Additional visitation on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, beginning at 10:00 a.m., at St. Timothy Church, 1088 Thomas Lane, Columbus, Ohio, with his funeral Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m. Entombment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 N. High St., Lewis Center, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Abbey Foundation, 19292 El Toro Road, Silverado, California 92676. Dr. Hodges will always be remembered for his generosity, dedication and compassion. Condolences may be sent via
