Elois Lefebure Cua
1930 - 2018
After 65 years of marriage, Josie, the love of Mom's life passed away on September 21, 2018. She didn't want to wait even 65 days to join him. She felt 55 days was far long enough and on November 15, 2018, the good Lord agreed and sent the Angels for her. Elois Delia Lefebure Cua was born in Englewood, New Jersey on August 10th, 1930 where she attended St. Cecilia high school. She had a famous chemistry and physics teacher there, and remembers this teacher helping coach the basketball team and football team when both needed one. She recalls him becoming quite good at the latter. Indeed, she was right, as the Super Bowl trophy is now named after her chemistry teacher, Mr. Vince Lombardi. There was a reason she was a lifelong Packers fan.
After graduating from St. Cecilia in 1949, Elois moved to Columbus with her family and attended Bliss College. Her father Regis opened a Dairy Queen on Cleveland Ave; that her future husband Joe would visit quite often. After a date to an OSU football game Joe was convinced that he wanted to marry Elois and he told his parents Joe Sr. and Esther that he wanted to get married in 6 weeks! Esther told him that there was no way they could plan for a wedding in only 6 weeks. So, Joe Jr. agreed to 8 weeks and they were married on September 16th, 1953 at St. James the Less Church with a reception to remember at the Valley Dale and a honeymoon at Niagara Falls.
Together Joe and Elois had 10 children: Mike (Laura d.) Cua, John Cua, Tom (Angela) Cua, Margaret (Casey) Flanagan, Jeanenne (Sam) Carfagna, Jennifer (Rusty) Staab, Chris (Debbie) Cua, Amy (Vinny) Susi, Jamey (Annamarie) Cua, Joseph III (Alise) Cua; along with 36 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Elois was preceded in death by her parents Regis and Margaret Mulherin Lefebure, her husband Joseph, her brother Henry Lefebure and sister-in-law Carol, sister Virgie and brother-in-law Ben Schutz, sister Delores and brother-in-law Jim Devery and daughter-in-law Laura Cua.
Joe and Elois raised their family on Eddystone Avenue behind the family's florist, landscaping and topsoil businesses. The house on Eddystone had a big back yard that was home to all of their children's cousins, classmates and friends from St. James the Less elementary, St. Francis DeSales and St. Charles high schools. There was always a game to play in that yard with plenty of kids to make two teams and Elois always made sure that there was enough food for all to get their fill when the games were done. Our family cherishes lots of good memories from that home and back yard.
The family of Joe and Elois will receive family and friends from 4 pm to 8 pm on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43212. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church 313 N. State St. Westerville, Ohio 43082 on Monday November 19, 2018 at 10:30 am. Family and friends can gather at the church. Our family would like to thank Dr. William Gramann, Dr. John Botti, Dr. John Phillips and the good and talented people at Riverside Hospital and Crown Pointe Care Center. We especially want to thank our sister Amy and brother John for all their selfless care of Mom and Dad through their waning years. As stated previously, it has been great having such a large family as all have contributed in caring for these two beautiful parents, grandparents and great grandparents.
