Obituary

Kathryn Ann Rotolo died December 2, 2021, after a courageous, four-year battle with Alzheimer's' Disease and multiple myeloma. Kathy was the youngest child of the late Peter and Mary (Gatto) Rotolo, and lived all her life in Columbus, Ohio. Kathy graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work, followed by a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Xavier University. She spent her entire career working with incarcerated teenagers at the Ohio Youth Commission, where she exhibited a no-nonsense approach to rehabilitation, which she enforced with a kind heart. She rose through the ranks until reaching the role of Deputy Director. After retirement, she offered transcription services to a local physician and taught English as a second language to immigrating men and women. She enjoyed dogs and always had a canine companion at home. She was also artistic and made jewelry and crafts to give as gifts to family and friends. Kathy leaves behind her brothers Michael (Judy) Rotolo and Charles (Margie) Rotolo, as well as eight nieces and nephews, Christopher (Lori) Peter (Stephanie), Paul (Katherine) and Anthony Rotolo, Sean, and Maura Rotolo (Gary)Bowen and Aaron and Gina Schumaker, 11 grandnieces and grandnephews, all whom she dearly loved. Her partner of many years, Jack Frazier, preceded her in death, as did her sister, Mary Angela Schumaker, and beloved aunt Gloria Gatto Fulcher. Kathy had a large extended family that includes special niece Maura (Gary) Rotolo Bowen, cousins Ginny Fulcher Clark, Helen Fiorino Lamb, and JoAnn DiSabato Wesner. There will be no calling hours, but there will be a Memorial Mass Saturday, December 18 at 11 AM ET at Christ the King Church at 2771 East Livingston Avenue, where Kathy was a long-time member. Father Michael Fulton will preside. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Kathy's name to the charity of your choice. ARRANGEMENTS ENTRUSTED TO THE JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME 1177 W FIFTH AVE. My deepest sympathy to all of you as you travel through the loss of this sweet lady. Kathy and I were classmates at Watterson and I don't think I ever heard her say anything negative. I haven't seen Kathy for a few years but when we reconnected at reunions, she was just as I always remembered her. Treasure all your memories. I am so sorry to hear about "Kathleen". That is what I called her because she carried herself like a "Kathleen" and took no crap at Scioto Juvenile Correctional Facility from either staff or kids. What a funny, intelligent friend and co-worker. She was so dedicated to helping others and I will never forget her. Rebecca Cantrell (We spoke on the phone 2 or so years ago and my last name was Eddy then.... I have since remarried).
