Obituary

Ronald J. Miller, age 72, of Johnstown, passed away at home on December 1, 2021. The son of the late Rosalie Book Miller and Robert Miller, "Jerry" as he was known then, was born in Joliet, Illinois on January 25, 1949. While born in Illinois, his heart was in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana where he spent summers with his maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles and many cousins. In Louisiana he learned life's lessons of resourcefulness, self-sufficiency, the value of work and the importance of faith and family. He graduated from Coal City Illinois High School in 1967 and Illinois Wesleyan University in 1971. With the goal of becoming a minister, Ron moved to Ohio to attend the Methodist Theological School in Delaware. His interests and career path quickly turned to social ministry. He spent over 35 years in service positions, including Touchstone Human Resources, Inc., a neighborhood mental health center, Southwest Community Mental Health Center, and the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission from which he retired in 2007. Ron was an avid reader of fiction and non-fiction, had a great memory, many interests, skills and knew "lots of stuff", his favorite comment when knowing the Jeopardy answers before the contestants. He and his wife traveled extensively, his favorite destination being The Big Island of Hawaii. He loved all kinds of music, particularly jazz, blues and rock. He enjoyed all types of food, good scotch and tequila and fine wine. He could fix almost anything. A dog lover, over the years he adopted many special needs Dobermans. He was a great story and joke teller. Throughout the last five years as he battled serious health issues which limited his ability to pursue the activities he loved, he remained positive and up-beat. Above all, Ron was a caring and kind man, a loving husband and a loyal friend. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kitty Burcsu; sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie Sue and Edward Markus; nephews Edwin and Allen (Josie) Markus; aunt, Myrna Loy (Brian) Taylor; uncle, Ronnie (Sheila) Book; mother-in-law, Nettie Burcsu; brother-in-law, Michael Burcsu and many cousins, friends, long-time travel companions and friends, Mary and Mike Stanley; and canine companion, Luca. The family will receive friends from 9-10:30 am at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home 1177 W. 5th Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43212. COVID PROTOCOLS WILL BE OBSERVED, so please bring a mask. A Procession will leave after the visitation for a Graveside Service at the St. Joseph Cemetery, 6440 S High Street, Lockbourne, Ohio with Rev. Robert Erickson and Rev. Gary Witte officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-Ohio Food Collective, 3960 Brookham Drive, Grove City, Ohio 43123, Hand Me Down Dobes, Inc., P.O. Box 12325, Columbus, OH 43212-0325 or the charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent via www.johnquint.com

Kitty, we are very sorry for your loss. We will miss Ron’s wonderful sense of humor and great storytelling skills. He was an enjoyable person to have a conversation with and was knowledgeable on many subjects, and very well read and compassionate. We fondly remember getting vacation advice from Ron. We enjoyed many bountiful meals and parties. His stories about Cajun life were amazing! Requiescat in pace, Ron.

Dear Kitty; I am deeply saddened to know that I, and our "circle" of friends from Illinois Wesleyan, have lost a very dear friend. Ron Dale, now residing in Thailand, sends his condolences, as does Peggy Huff-Zahn, in Washington State. Ron was always gregarious, fun, a wonderful jokester, and his tales of the bayou, are unsurpassed. We have precious memories of him, and, although he was living in Columbus, he was never, far away. May he rest in peace, and if not, behave himself in heaven. Sincerely, Vickie Price, and Illinois Wesleyan University friends. May

Kitty, I am at a loss on how to convey the deep sense of loss at the thought of Ron no longer being there, with you. You have both been such a constant in my life, even meeting my daughter before I did. My heart goes out to you and your family. Ron's memory will be cherished!

Jerry’s grandmother and grandfather lived only a few hundred yards from my house in catahoula parish Janesville, la where we grew up. I saw and spent time with jerry and Sue every summer growing up as I did with his uncles jerry and Ronnie book as we were all fairly close in age range we had some great times and oh how I look back on those days with longing. I bought the house in Alexandria la where his mother and mr Parker lived after they passed and jerry and Sue visited me here over a decade ago and I talked with each of them once by phone since then. I am so sorry that he is gone. And yes he was quick witted and like both parents but especially like I I remember his father bob to be my add 1415 Mohon st Alexandria la 71301 ph 318-664-7373
