Obituary

Stephen Ernest Scully, 53, of Hilliard, Ohio, died Thursday morning, Dec. 17, 2020, in his home after complications from Covid-19. He was a loving and faithful husband to Carla (Zanetos) Scully and an adoring father to his four children, John, Samuel, Joseph, and Michael. He was born Aug. 21, 1967, in Sidney, Ohio, to Barbara (Goffena) and the late John Scully. On Sept. 7, 1996, he married Carla Zanetos at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Columbus. He is survived by his devoted wife and four children, of Hilliard; his mother Barbara, of Sidney; three brothers Joe (Janet), of Plymouth, Maine, Tom (Sue), of Troy, and Dan (Erica) Scully, of Sidney; father- and mother-in-law, Joseph and Carol Zanetos, of Columbus; sister-in-law, Candi (Michael) Trifelos, of Columbus; nephews, Brian (Vanessa) Scully, Eric (Tamara) Scully, Jordan Scully, Jake Scully, Brylan Scully, and Nicholas, Mark, and Alex Trifelos. Steve was vice president of operations at Anthony-Thomas Candy Co., where he worked for 22 years. Prior to that he worked at the Dannon Co. in Minster, Ohio as an engineer. He attended grade school at Holy Angels Catholic School, graduated from Sidney High School in 1986 and attended Bowling Green State University. He was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church, Columbus, and before that Holy Angels Catholic Church, in Sidney. He was also a long-standing member of The Shamrock Club and extremely proud to be an Irish-American Catholic. For many years he proudly marched in the downtown St. Patrick's Day Parade, both before marriage and then later with his beloved boys. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and loved watching football with his family. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying everything outdoors, especially fly fishing and kayaking. He loved going to Ludington, Mich., each year to camp and fish with his family. He enjoyed visiting our country's national parks from Hawaii to Yellowstone to Acadia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Agatha Catholic Church, 1860 Northam Road (Upper Arlington) with Rev. Fr. M. Edmund Hussey as celebrant. Burial will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. We are very sorry to hear about Steve's passing. I am a fellow 1986 Sidney high graduate. I first met Steve when I was about 10 or 11. I worked with Steve at Anthony-Thomas for many years. He was always easy to work with and would go out of his way to be helpful. His humorous attitude was inviting.
Touchdown Jesus has just lost his biggest fan. But then again, I'd bet Steve is talking football with him right now.
