He joined Student Life in 1973 as a Program Assistant, creating what is now the Office of Off-Campus and Commuter Student Services. He retired as Vice President for Student Life in 2008. His focus was on building the next generation of leaders, through workshops, teaching courses in leadership, and coaching and engaging students and staff every day. Rich was a long-time advisor to Undergraduate Student Government, OSU NAACP, Mortar Board Senior Class Honor Society, and Ohio Staters, Inc. service organization.
