Obituary

Gus A. Rogers, age 88, died peacefully Sunday morning, February 12, 2017, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He lived by his favorite motto, “Don’t worry, Be happy.” A man of faith and tradition, he strongly believed if you have family you have everything. He knew no strangers; everyone was family. He was an avid OSU Buckeye and Cincinnati Reds fan, and loved gatherings of all kinds, especially golf outings, dancing, sporting events, traveling, social events, playing cards, bowling and watching OSU football at the India Oak. He served as a medic in the Korean War. He was a proud owner of a local filling station and family operated Ledo’s Pizza. Gus retired from Johnson’s Industrial Catering and enjoyed working at Sawmill Athletic Club throughout his retirement years. He was a founding member of the American Italian Golf Association and Riviera Country Club. He was also active in the SFI Lodge, St. Clair Athletic Club, the G.A.C., St. Francis Seniors, AMVETS Post 89 and a longtime member of St. Matthias Church. Preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Josephine; brothers and sister-in-law, John (Margaret) and Michael; brother-in-law, Bob Harper; mother and father-in-law, Nick and Mary Melaragno; son-in-law, Dan Welker; and grandson, James Lawson. Survived by his loving wife, Esther, of 63 years; children, Cathy Welker-Lynch, Steve (Jean) Rogers, JoAnn (Mike) Riley, Mary Teresa (Cyril) Monesi, Rita (Jim) Lawson and Patrick Rogers; grandchildren, Chad, Kaleigh (Adam), Kelsey (fiance' Seth), Ben (Lindsey), Hannah, Jacob, Andrew (Megan), Trisha, Dominic, Christa, Aaron, Rachel, Ben, and Michaela; six great-grandchildren and one on the way; also survived by sister, Grace Harper; sister-and brother-in-laws, Judy Rogers, Teresa (Bud) Joos, Nick (Mary Lou) Melaragno, Mary Ann (Carl) Fielding and Angie (Mike) Welling; and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 2-8 p.m., at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 W. Fifth Ave., Columbus OH 43212; (services led by the GAC followed by S.F.I. will begin at 4:30). Funeral Mass 10 a.m., Thursday, February 16, 2017, at Saint Matthias Catholic Church, 1582 Ferris Road (at Karl). Rev. Fr. Raymond Larussa, Presider. So sorry for your loss. Prayers for your entire family. My family lived across the street from you on Homecroft Dr. Back in the day when all of the neighborhood kids played outside all day into evening.

Sending our deepest Sympathy to all of you. My memories of Gus were of his visits to California.
Seeing him outside by the pool reading and enjoying the sunshine. I always loved his Pizzelle cookies he would bake.
