George A. Gillig, age 101, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Kobacker House. He was born September 26, 1916 in Tiffin, OH. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth L. "Beth" Gillig; parents, Charles P. Gillig and Olive L. (Houck) Gillig; sister, Marie Schwartzmiller and brother-in-law, Fred Schwartzmilller; brother, Robert Gillig and sister-in-law, Helen Rose (Smith) Gillig; sister, Clara (Welter) Gillig and brother-in-law, William N. Welter; nephews, Richard C. and William J. Welter, all of Tiffin, Ohio; nephew, Charles Gillig; niece, Marilyn Frey; father-in-law, William E. Music and mother-in-law, Mildred (Endicott) Music; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Christeen Music of Mansfield; brother and sister-in-law of Greely, CO, Delbert and Pauline Music; brother and sister-in-law, Charles Shambaugh DDS and Mary Shambaugh of Belleville OH; brother-in-law, Richard Frey of Tiffin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James Music and Edna Music of Galion. Survived by sister, Alice Frey; 22 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. Graduate of Tiffin Calvert High school, attended John Carroll University and then received his designation from the Society of Financial Service Professionals. Member of Knights of Columbus Our Lady of Victory Council 12900 as a 4th Degree of Bishop Edward Hermann Assembly 2727. Member of Serra Club of Columbus, Saint Vincent DePaul Society, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars. World War II Veteran who served as a Sergeant in the Aviation Engineers in the Pacific Theater and was awarded a battle star for the Okinawa campaign. In 1979 and again in 1982 was the National sales leader for the Company he represented as a provider of Financial Services. His family will receive friends on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 9 a.m., until time of his funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 1559 Roxbury Road (Marble Cliff); Rev. Msgr. Romano Ciotola, Presider. Entombment to follow, Resurrection Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum, 9571 N. High St., Lewis Center. In lieu of flowers donations preferred to either the St. Vincent DePaul Society food bank or Serra Club for Vocations.
