Obituary

Terango Joanie Armstrong Terango, age 77, of Upper Arlington, passed away peacefully at Kobacker House in Columbus on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 after fighting a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Joanie was a graduate of Worthington High School and The Ohio State University. She had a zest for life and enjoyed each day to its fullest. Her passion was to serve others and she was a very devoted mother, wife, grandmother and friend to so many. She had a fulfilling 40-year career in public relations which spanned across a variety of companies from COTA to Grange Insurance. In retirement, she enjoyed her grandchildren, traveling, golfing, playing Mah Jongg, and OSU tailgates. She was active with Kappa Alpha Theta and served on the Board of Directors for Columbus Children's Theatre and Ronald McDonald House. Joanie was preceded in death by her parents Timothy and Mary Armstrong. She is survived by husband, John V. Terango; daughters, Mary Katharine (Craig) Shiple and Elizabeth (Peter) Boyuk; and son, Tim (Tonya Hunt) Florence; grandchildren, Kurt and Drew Shiple, Cassidy and Macy Boyuk; sister, Patty Armstrong Biederman; stepdaughters, Beth Terango and Amy Terango Waldbillig; and step grandchildren, Siena, John and Alessa. Memorial Mass 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at OUR LADY OF VICTORY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1559 Roxbury Road (Marble Cliff), where friends will be received one hour prior to the Mass. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joanie Terango's memory may be made to Columbus Museum of Art, Kobacker House or Our Lady of Victory Church. Liz-- Your mom was such a special person and you are so much like her. I always loved spending time around your mom and know where you get your positive, upbeat, happy demeanor! I remember running into your mom and John coming home from Phoenix after the Ohio State v Miami football game. I know they had enjoyed a great visit there and always took so much joy in traveling, golfing, but most importantly spending time with family. She will be missed so much and I hope your many wonderful memories of her will help you through this difficult time. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. ❤%uFE0F

I am in shock this evening. Each year I look forward to Joan's holiday card. I love seeing her message and pictures of her family. Tonight I noticed we hadn't received one and I googled to see if she and John had moved. Never ever did I expect to see an obituary. :( Joan had more life, kindness and giving spirit than anyone I had ever met. She was someone that I was honored to work with - she taught me so much, but mostly she was a model of the most giving and kind heart of most anyone I had ever known. I am devasted that the world lost such an amazing spirit. I wish I had known she was sick and could have told her when she was alive what she meant to me. I will never forget you dear Joan. You were an extraordinary person and you will be missed dearly.
Love to all her family whom she adored. Deepest sympathies to all of you.
