Obituary

Margaret Louise Schreck, 98, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at home where she was lovingly cared for by her family. She was born April 28, 1918 in Grove City, Ohio to Edward and Amelia (Schmelzer) Trapp, then at age six moved with her parents and sister to a farm in Hilliard, Ohio where, with no brothers in the family, she learned to handle any farm chore. In 1943, she joined the Women's Army Corp and served her country during WWII, stationed first in South Dakota, then Australia and finally the Philippines where she worked in an office supporting General MacArthur. Mom was very proud of her military service. While in Australia, she met a Kansas farmer and Army serviceman, Victor Schreck. They married in 1947 and were blessed with nine children while building a successful farming business raising crops, livestock and later Schreck's Egg Farm with over 9,000 chickens. She worked all aspects of the farm including the egg delivery routes throughout central Ohio and developed many of the customer accounts herself. She and Victor instilled in their children, the importance of a strong work ethic, integrity, fairness and a deep Catholic faith. She was a life-long parishioner of St. Cecilia Church and a member of the Hilliard High School class of 1936. Mom was a talented artist and enjoyed teaching art classes at the Hilliard Senior Center. In 2010, she was very honored to participate in an Honor Flight for WWII veterans to Washington D.C. Preceding her in death are her parents; grandson, Christopher; sister, Alma "Bunch" and husband Victor (d. 2006). She will be greatly missed by her children Edward (Mary), Regina, Rene, Steve (Lisa), Ann (Mike Zettler), Alisa (Tim) Janz, Rosita, Rita (Mike) Dean, and Greg (Mary); grandchildren, Doug Schreck, Jennifer (Shawn) Logan, Tom (Chrissy), Katie and Megan Janz, Nikki and Ali Dean, Katie and Conor Woodie, Aidan and Quinn Schreck, Paige and Shelby Selbert; and great-grandson, Liam Logan. And always by her side until the end, was her dog, Charlie. The family is very grateful for the wonderful care Margaret received from Dr. Thomas Wanko and staff (Carrie, Lina and Kim), Columbus VA Home Base Primary Care Team, Zusman Hospice and aide Katie Daniels. Friends may call 4:00-8:00 pm Friday, September 16 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 434 Norton Road, Columbus 43228 (with a Vigil Service at 5:00 p.m.). A funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am Saturday at St. Cecilia Church. Father Leo Connolly, celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish, may contribute in memory of Margaret to Zusman Hospice 1151 College Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43209, Honor Flight Columbus P.O. Box 12036, Columbus OH 43212 or St. Vincent de Paul Society in care of St. Cecilia Church. Services entrusted with JOHN QUINT TREBONI, 1177 W. Fifth Avenue, Columbus.
