Obituary

Edmund (Eddie, Edward) Arthur Miller, age 85, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the OSU James Cancer Hospital from pulmonary fibrosis and heart disease. He is preceded in death by his parents, Adam J. and Emma (nee Arnold) Miller; siblings, Eleanor, Deloris, Willa Mae, Dorothy, Henry, Arnold and Francis. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Deanna (Johnston) Miller; his daughter, Rebecca (Michael) Siegmund of Austin, Texas; sons, Michael (Sarah) Miller and Jeffrey (Lauren) Miller of Columbus; grandson, Matthew (Nicolette) Miller; granddaughters, Megan Miller, Emma and Christina; along with a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of extended family. Eddie was born April 14, 1932 in Noble County, Ohio, as the youngest of eight children. After serving in the United States Army as a mechanic, he moved to Columbus. In April 1959, Eddie opened Arlington Texaco on the corner of Northwest Blvd. and North Star Road, which later became Arlington Marathon. It now is Miller's Arlington Car Care (2013). Eddie never met a stranger and had a quick wit along with a heart of gold. Eddie found great pride in working with his community and the many customers that turned into friends before his 55 year retirement. Eddie enjoyed taking his 1939 Chevy pickup truck to many car shows and amassed over 100 trophies. Eddie loved to garden, the OSU Buckeyes and camping. He loved attending the Indianapolis 500 with this sons, grandson and granddaughter and watching NASCAR. Eddie loved to tell stories and was quite the jokester, but most of all, Eddie loved his family, his friends and his community. His family will receive friends on Friday, September 29, 2017, from 5-8 p.m., at the JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue (Columbus). His funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 1150 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus (43212), with the Rev. Kevin Orr and Rev. Robert Alexander, officiating. In lieu of flowers, Eddie requested donations be made to Honor Flight Columbus, POB 12036, Columbus (43212). Condolences may be sent via www.johnquint.com.

We we were so sad to hear about Eddie passing but the minute we shared the news with our three sons we were soon reminiscing about all the good times we had going to "Eddie's". From the "drive by" water gun play to hearing Eddie saying "Glad you got to see me today" we were all soon smiling and laughing. Eddie was a dear. He would help you do anything and saved me many a time, especially at the day care. He did absolutely anything he could for his customers. Eddie will be missed but we know you, your family, friends and customers will find comfort in all the good memories they have of Eddie. Sending you all prayers of comfort and lots of hugs!

Dear Mike and Family,
We are so saddened to hear of Eddie's passing. We will always remember how Eddie always had something fun to say to us whenever we came in for car service or gas. He will be remembered for his kindness. No matter what kind of car problem we had or how much it was going to cost, Eddie always made things work for us. His smile and sense of humor were infectious! Please know you are all in our prayers.
Peace,
John and Sue Gardiner

My high school friend in Columbus was thoughtful enough to send me the obituary published in the newspaper. I met Eddie when we both worked for Paul Lambert at Paul's Poultry in the Lane Avenue Shopping Center in mid 50's. I was a part timer still in high school, and Eddie and his brother Arnold were delivery men servicing Paul's customers. Eddie was always willing to help this "greenhorn" learn about the poultry business, and I really appreciated his advice. My mother "Mickey" absolutely loved Eddie and was his faithful customer at Arlington Texaco from the day he started the businesses until her death many years ago. I've been gone from Columbus since 1958 but my memories of Eddie have followed me through the years. He was truly a gentleman and a friend.

Deanna and Family -
We are so sorry to hear about Eddie and kick ourselves for not taking the time to visit when we were in Ohio a couple of months ago. He was a wonderful friend and Florida neighbor. Bob really misses playing their weekly Euchre games. Peace of the Lord be with you all during your time of grief.

He was a good and faithful man and surely will be rewarded for "fighting the good fight. May God wrap his loving arms around you and bring you comfort during your time of sorrow. You are in my prayers.

I’m greatly saddened to hear of Eddies passing, and send you all, especially Deanna my thoughts and prayers at this time. Your husband was an incredible person, with a humor that spread quickly to those around him. From running a landmark business on Northstar, to teaching a stupid kid how to drive a truck, what he meant, and will remain to mean to our family will not pass. Again my sincerest condolences, and may God Bless.

Deanna and Family,
I am sincerely saddened at Eddie's passing and shall keep him and you all in my prayers.
I knew Eddie as his customer and also as a friend.
I was pleased to visit with him about one year ago when I was in Upper Arlington.
I share your grief as well. I treasure the good feelings I get thinking about him and his sense of humor and dedication to his customers. I fondly recall his "Retirement Party."
Sincerely,
Henry

Mike and Mrs Miller Sorry I did not know about Eddie's passing . I considered him a true friend . He took care of my personal and business vehicles . I cannot forget that he would service my car and my wife's and then drive them home and put them in our garage . What a guy !!
