Obituary

Virginia Mary (Teatino) Convertine, age 99, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2018, with her children by her side. Born December 24, 1918, in Columbus, Ohio, Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, John; and was the youngest and final survivor of Julia (Vittorio) and Gustino Teatino’s eight children, brothers, Merrill "Beans", Richard, Eliggio "Lucky", Clarence "Cootie", Edward; and sisters, Josephine (Rogers) and Alice (DiPietro). Virginia will be remembered for her kind and generous heart, always willing to help any and all she encountered. Her greatest joy came from serving her family and friends, especially through her cooking and baking. She thoroughly enjoyed making her Italian cookies and baked goods for the holidays, ensuring there were plenty of extras to distribute to family members and friends. Virginia loved her country. Since she was forbidden by her parents from joining the military during World War II, Virginia served her country by working for the Columbus Army Depot. She went on to work for Lazarus Department Store until she married her beloved husband, John, in 1951. She devoted herself to her husband and children and welcomed all into her home. After the children were raised she worked for the State of Ohio Bureau of Disability. Virginia enjoyed watching and playing sports, and in her youth played softball and basketball. As an adult, she bowled in several leagues for many years and took up golfing. While she disliked freeway driving, she made an exception to attend her weekly golf league at Riviera Country Club in Dublin. Virginia will be greatly missed by her family and friends, especially children Mark, Michael and Michelle (Patrick) Connor; grandchildren, John, Andrew, Benjamin and Claire Connor; dear and devoted niece, Grace Harper, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Anna Vayntraub and June Galloway for their many years of loving care and, more recently, the staff of Willow Brook Christian Home. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, May 6, 2018 at JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 W. Fifth Ave., Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2018 at St. James the Less Catholic Church, 1652 Oakland Park Avenue, Columbus, OH 43224. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Lockbourne. If desired, donations may be made to St. James Catholic Church (see address above) or Willow Brook Christian Home, 55 Lazelle Rd., Columbus, OH 43235. Condolences may be sent via www.johnquint.com.
